Growing as a disciple of Christ means involvement in mission and standing in solidarity with the poor. Christ’s imperative to “feed the hungry”, “clothe the naked” and “welcome the stranger” is taken at face value. Christ then went on to say, “As you did it to the least of these, you did it for me.”
The benefits of mission opportunities and trips include the shaping of our faith in new ways, broadened perspectives, and altering how we approach the needs of others. Also, it can often take leaving our own comfort zones in order to fully recognize the needs that are right in front of us.
In the Youth Ministry at SAPC, you will get an opportunity to experience mission, and the love of Christ at its absolute core. Here are the types of mission opportunities you can expect as a student:
Summer Mission Trip to Cortez, CO: June 6-13
In the past we’ve taken summer trips to Hollywood, New York City, Boston, and Puerto Rico. This summer we’ll be traveling to Cortez, Colorado June 6-13. Last summer, we joined with the senior high youth group of First Presbyterian of Fort Worth, which made the experience all that much richer. This summer we will join with them again in Cortez, Colorado. Much of what we’ll be doing will be home improvement related for the residents of this town, many of whom live below the poverty level. Sign-ups are happening now!
30-Hour Famine:
Middle School through Senior High students (6th-12th grade) will have an amazing opportunity to experience hunger first-hand and raise funds that fight global hunger. Through World Vision’s 30-Hour Famine, students fasted from food for 30 hours and raised financial support from friends, family and the community. Watch here for information about the event!
